An Evening in Noyers

The bridge out of town over the Serein river

Our friends David and Martin are visiting our region for an extended stay, and they are staying in James and Daniel's cozy, but unfinished house. They have become quite attracted to Burgundy and are now regular visitors. David, in fact, is starting to look at real estate in the area. He is particularly interested in Noyers, which, of course, is a very charming village indeed.

While in town one day we noticed a wine bar, which we were vaguely aware of, but had not yet patronized. We decided that on Friday evening we would go for an apéritif and find out what we have been missing.

As it turned out, the place offers a full dinner on a back terrace as well as drinks and snacks. We were there early and didn't want to spend the time waiting for the dinner service. We were, however, able to get a glimpse of the dinning terrace with the sun just setting, creating golden highlights on the church tower. It was very pleasant

Terrace seating at Les Granges

In the front terrace there was some comfortable furniture where we were able to sit, order a bottle of Chablis Premier Cru and a plate of charcuterie and cheese. We spent a pleasant hour there talking about the good old days, as people our age often do.

The small bar at Les Granges

The restaurant, called Les Granges is fairly new in town and not located on the main street, so it isn't difficult to overlook. While we were there, however, many other groups wandered in and established themselves on the back terrace. The Place is made up of several buildings, one for the kitchen, another for the bar and the third presumably for storage. The interiors of the two public buildings were very tastefully realized. Stone, old beams and big modern windows are a winning combination and our area is full of such refurbishments.

Night falls over the river Serein

It was dark by the time we left, but down the road we could hear the music of a live band out in front of our favorite pizza place. By Noyers standards, there was a large crowd enjoying the beautiful evening air, the rousing music and a pizza dinner on the street.

Martin walked towards the music then came back to give us the report

We ourselves headed for home and some chicken soup we had waiting. We stopped on the far side of town before mounting the hill to Moulins where we had seen a "For Sale" sign. David wanted to have a look. Finding a place in Noyers is difficult, as they sell almost as soon as they hit the market. This one, although available, was not going to work for David. Too small and no garden whatsoever.

Good morning to the new week ahead.
